Chef Stephanie’s BBC Appearance – Bringing Appalachian Flavors to an International Audience
In the summer of 2024, the Smoky Mountains became the backdrop for a truly special culinary moment. Chef Stephanie Foley, Co-Owner and Founder of the Smoky Mountain School of Cooking, was invited to join Paula McIntyre, celebrated chef and host of the BBC series Hamely Kitchen, for the filming of Paula’s fall 2024 season.
Paula and her production crew traveled from Northern Ireland to the USA in June 2024, seeking authentic regional flavors and stories to share with their viewers. They found just that in our kitchen here in Gatlinburg. Chef Stephanie brought her Appalachian heritage to the forefront, preparing her Black-eyed Pea Skillet Cornbread – a cherished family recipe inspired by the traditions of her Kentucky upbringing.
Fast-forward to September 20, 2024, when the episode aired on BBC 1 Northern Ireland. Viewers across the globe got a taste of Appalachian cooking and the warmth that defines our culinary school. It was an incredible opportunity to showcase not just a recipe, but the culture, history, and heart that make Smoky Mountain cooking so unique.
